On August 08, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. a collision occurred between freight train no. 81330 and passenger train no. 931 on the single-track line marked L214, at km 009+300, between the stations Sveti Ivan Žabno-Gradec. Freight train no. 81330 consisted of locomotive no. 94 78 2041 105-4 and 11 empty wagons, and passenger train no. 931 was a battery-electric train 94 78 6211 001-4. The freight train was coming from the station Sveti Ivan Žabno and was supposed to wait for a crossing with a passenger train coming from the station Gradec.
In the aforementioned serious accident, 22 of the 28 passengers sought medical attention, as did both train drivers and the conductor. There was extensive material damage to the railway vehicles.
Given the circumstances that led to the serious accident, a decision was made to initiate a safety investigation in accordance with Article 127, Paragraph 1 of the Railway Safety and Interoperability Act (“Official Gazette”, No. 63/20).
