Summary:
On 24 July 2022, at 02:01 am local time (UTC +2), while attempting to dock at the vessel berth of the INA d.d. fuel station in the City Port of Split, the passenger ship Morska Vila directly collided bow-first with the coastal edge of the berth.
Immediately after the impact, the ship managed to moor starboard-side to the berth, allowing all passengers and crew to disembark safely.
As a result of the collision, the bow structure of the ship’s hull sustained damage, leading to seawater ingress into the lower deck, gradual flooding, and a tilt to the port side, ultimately causing the vessel to rest partially submerged on the seabed near the shore. The coastal wall of the berth suffered only minor damage.
At the time of the incident, the ship carried 4 crew members and 35 passengers; no fatalities or injuries were reported.
The accident caused minor marine pollution, which was promptly contained and remediated.
In this case, the Agency for Investigation of Accidents in Air, Marine, and Railway Transport has no safety recommendations.
